Housekeeping Assistant

Position Summary

We are seeking a dependable and conscientious member of Grace Baptist Church to join our housekeeping team to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our congregation, staff, visitors, and community. This position is responsible for routine cleaning and light facility upkeep throughout the church building.

 

The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, works independently, notices what needs attention, and understands the importance of caring for a facility used for worship, ministry, and events.

 

Primary Responsibilities​

• Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, counters, and floors.

• Vacuum, sweep, and mop floors throughout assigned areas, as needed.

• Empty trash and receptacles and replace liners.

• Dust and wipe down furniture, windowsills, doors, and other surfaces.

• Clean and maintain the classrooms, entryways, family life center, kitchen, servery, and café.

• Clean kitchen and fellowship areas following church activities as needed.

• Replenish restroom and cleaning supplies.

• Clean entrance doors and interior glass as needed.

• Notify church leadership of needed repairs, maintenance concerns, safety hazards, or supply needs.

• Properly and safely use and store cleaning products and equipment.

• Help maintain an orderly and welcoming appearance throughout the church.

• Perform other reasonable cleaning and light facility-related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

• Active Member of Grace Baptist Church

• Dependable, punctual, and able to work with limited supervision.

• Previous janitorial, custodial, or cleaning experience is preferred but not required.

• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining a clean environment.

• Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively with church staff.

• Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality and professionalism while working in the church.

• Willingness to work around the church's worship, ministry, and event schedule.

• Must be able to safely perform the physical duties of the position.

 

Physical Requirements

The employee should be able to:

• Stand and walk for extended periods.

• Bend, reach, kneel, and perform repetitive cleaning tasks.

• Safely use basic cleaning equipment such as vacuums, mops, and related tools.

• Lift and carry approximately 25–30 pounds.

• Safely navigate stairs and different areas of the church facility, as applicable.

 

Hours

This is a part-time position averaging approximately 20–25 hours per week. Weekly cleaning should occur between 9 AM and 5 PM. Some flexibility may be necessary for holidays, special services, weddings, funerals, and other church events.
